To make it one-statement and simple, so users don't forget the data and
save typing.
This is for a profling library (TAU) written by C++ folks who need to
support Fortran as well, and want both g77 and other compilers. What
they should really use is:
integer*8 :: profiler=0 ! works with g77 also
and please don't start an argument over *8, I know it is not standard,
and we've argued enough over it in J3...there is no other simple way of
doing it in g77.
