A few years ago I wrote a course on f90 for f77 programmers. I used
it within my research team, but it's taken me this long to put it
online. You can download it here:
http://www.maniacalextent.com/publications/
The course is broken into 3 days (perhaps optimistically):
1) Basic intro to f90
2) Structured programming with f90, using modules and user-defined
types to create Abstract Data Types (ADTs).
3) Parallel programming with MPI and OpenMP
The course was written for Chemical Physicists, so a lot of examples
are from Theoretical Chemistry. Nonetheless, I think a general
scientist could follow them.
There is also support material, in the form of exercises, code, and a
collection of other people's articles on Fortran 90.
