Because the message was plain text, to be read by a human, and that does indeed support the statement that lower case is more readable, at least when it is intended to be read as text. Upper case text looks awkward, much like an old telegram. Also, typing it in all upper case really doesn't strike me as being less difficult. In code, I do think comments and code ought to stand out from each other, and one can't always just use trailing comments. I imagine which case to use for code itself will remain a personal choice. I can't honestly argue that upper case code is better; it's just what I tend to do, and it works for me.
