Call for advice on installing 'permanent' data projectors outside.

'New Media Meets Old' Regeneration Community Public Arts Project in Wick,
Caithness, Scotland.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm a digital artist based in Brighton and currently residing in Wick,
working on a Public Arts Residency project for three months.
I've been commissioned to create five digital video projections working with
young people. Three are to be installed permanently in a street, and two
projected temporarily from a harbour tower, all will be night time
projections.
I am working with the Highland Council electrician to power the data
projectors (and DVD players) through the street lighting. For general
council maintenance the projectors need to be accessible from the street and
therefore housed outdoors.
'Mites' in Liverpool have no knowledge of a successful project installing
projectors permanently outside. They therefore advised me against it, due to
unpredictable temperature changes, frost, ventilation and general difficulty
in maintaining such sensitive equipment.
I'm considering alternative methods, such as installing the projectors
indoors and back projecting into windows. This too presents a challenge in
achieving an optimum brightness under street lighting conditions. Can anyone
recommend particular projectors and a number of ANSI Lumens - we have a
budget of £10,000. Another idea is to use low-tech slide projectors for the
two outdoor street projections.
I would be very grateful of any advice and/or contacts. Please email me as
soon as possible. The deadline for completion is the end of April.
Yours in anticipation,
Tamsin Williams
