The National Centre for e-Social Science (NCeSS) will be holding a free
introductory workshop to e-social science at the University of Manchester
on the 19th of November.
No technical expertise or prior knowledge is required as the day will
introduce you to the concept of e-social science, you will have plenty of
opportunity to try out access grids (the next generation of video
conferencing) and e-social science training and awareness materials.
There will also be an introduction to NCeSS, its purpose and the services
it offers. This event is an opportunity to meet experts in Grid technology
and to see how the practice of social science may be influenced by these
emerging technologies.

Digital Records and Representations of Human Activities

This workshop is the first of a series of Agenda Setting Workshops in e-
social science. The workshop will seek to explore and understand how Grid
technologies can be used to provide new processes and services to collect,
collate and distribute social science information. Topics covered include:
- New ways to record key data of relevance to social science research
- New techniques to allow data to be represented and re-represented to
support different social science approaches
- New ways to replay the digital record to support social science analysis
