I would second this: it's the only anthology I know that tries to reflect
the full picture ....

Hi Tom,
I'm sure others here will have plenty of recommendations, but my own
first choice would be OUP's Anthology of Twentieth-Century British
and Irish Poetry. Starts with Hardy, but comes up to date with Helen
MacDonald and some others of her generation. Excellent brief intros
to the individual poets, including bibliography, and superb
annotation by the indefatigable Nate Dorward. There's a page of
ongoing corrections and annotations online at:
http://www.geocities.com/ndorward/oupchanges.html
It's not cheap, but I don't think it really has a rival in the way it
intercuts the so-called 'mainstream' and 'experimental' tendencies.
You can also follow the controversy it stirred up in its temerity in
suggesting a new reading of its field, via
http://www.geocities.com/ndorward/oupbiblio.html
Hope this helps,
Trevor
