We are currently involved in a social-historical project on the
history
of immigration in Italy from 1861 to the early 1990s. In other words, we
are trying to analyse the presence of foreigners on Italian soil from the
birth of the Italian state to the beginning of what is today called
ìimmigratio in Italy.
Italy is known as the quintessential emigration country, so there is
a
fair amount of scholarship on Italian emigrants. There is much less work
carried out on the presence of foreigners into Italy, be they merchants,
refugees, entrepreneurs or nannies.
We are looking for information on:
- studies on individuals and people having settled in Italy in the period
before 1990;
- diaries, biographies and other autobiographical writings of people having
spent a significant spell of their lives - at least 1 or 2 years - in
Italy in the period;
- archives or data-sources that may be important to check for available
documentation on our topic.
