Subject: TATE MODERN PLACEMENT FOR BME GRADUATE

HI all, this isn't taking place in Wales, but looks really great...if we
know any art graduates from BME backgrounds who want a (partially paid)
placement at the Tate Modern - pass this on!

Tate Modern Adult Programmes
Training Placement
For Ethnic Minority Graduates

Tate has created a new three-month programme within the Interpretation
and Education Department designed to give ethnic minority groups the
chance to gain experience within the arts sector. It is a key part of
our drive to make a positive cultural, social and economic contribution
to the communities we serve. It is also an invaluable way for us to
develop greater cultural diversity in all aspects of our work.

The Interpretation and Education Department at Tate Modern consists of
approximately 20 staff who work with a variety of different audiences.
As part of the placement in adult programmes you will play a role in
supporting adult courses, general and specialist talks and discussions,
academic symposia and film programmes. You will have the opportunity to
supervise certain events and assist with research, proof reading and
artist liaison. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in
pursuing a career in Gallery, Museum or Arts Education.

You will need competent office and computer skills as well as the
ability to prioritise and multi task in a busy, open plan environment.
Attention to detail and an ability to work relatively unsupervised are
important for candidates in this placement. Confidence in dealing with
members of the public, event delegates and guest speakers is also
essential.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside the Curators of Adult
Learning, Public Events, Film and the Assistant Curator of Education
Events. You may also be asked to assist, take part in visits or attend
workshops in conjunction with other people within the department.

For more detail about all Interpretation and Education programmes at
Tate Modern go to http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/eventseducation/

Hours:
• 10:00-18:00 three days a week for four months.
• The placement involves extensive weekend and evening work which will
be
  in lieu of weekday assistance.

Stipend/ Expenses:
• We will pay a stipend of £1765 for the period of the placement.

Whilst at Tate Modern you will have the opportunity to:
• Research speakers’ details- artists, critics, and journalists etc •
Research film distributors and rights • Undertake picture research for
publicity material • Proof read publicity material and programme
information • Invigilate gallery talks, courses, workshops and
conferences • Complete observations on a range of workshops and
different lecturing
  styles
• Liaise with Tate ticketing regarding event sales
• Provide information to delegates, speakers and other staff concerning
  details of events
• Complete front of house and ticketing duties at events
• Compile delegates’ packs for events
• Assist with aspects of catering arrangements for ticketed events,
including running the bar after Monday evening courses

Benefits of this placement:
• Opportunity to attend on or off site meetings and events run by the
  department
• Chance to gain knowledge of specific audience promotional material •
To understand all programs within Interpretation and Education
  Department
• Meet Tate Modern Interpretation and Education team
• Achieve work experience which will be a valuable addition to C.V •
Free entry into Tate Exhibitions and talks, discussions, courses,
symposia and films for the duration of your placement

Tate is unable to make an offer of permanent employment at the end of
the programme. However, you will have a formal career development
review in which we will assess what you have learned and how you can
apply your new experience to further your career.

Section 37 of the Race Relations Act 1976 applies to this placement.
Tate is working towards equal opportunities.

To get an application for this placement please contact Natalie Bryan on
