Hi Marika
I am very much in agreement with the conference on
education and would like to suggest two kwy speakers
Morgan Dr Dalphinis and Celia Burgess-Macey, they can
both speak on language and the curriculum. Both are
well versed with what is going on in the schools and
can offer practical methods.
I will like to spek and carry out a workshop both for
teachers and students on the values of popular culture
in today's education, particularly from a creative
point of view.
I will like to send you a copy of the musical 'Common
Threads' which I wrote with my daughter who is a
musician and has taught at the Kennedy Centre in the
USA, it is set for key stages 2, 3, & 4, its about the
energies of sugar and coal, two worlds where energies
collide, set on a sugar cane plantation in Grenada and
Big Pit Colliery in South Wales.
We staged a Showcase of it at Lilian Baylis/Sadler's
Wells last Wednesday and had students of the Islington
Art6s and Media School working to the media section of
it.
The work of the students will be going into three of
the main libraries in Islington in September.
Please let me have an address to forward the material
to you and let me have your views on what I suggested.
I personally feel that the pravctical methods are what
is seriously needed in schools as teachers are too
laden in following the curriculum. We also need to
show the authorities that learning must work with the
ability of the children, not all can follow what is
laid down by government.
Best wishes
Alex
