ESRC QUOTA AWARDS
CEES has been allocated two ESRC ‘1+3’ (MRes + PhD) awards for 2004-05.
Preliminary expressions of interest are requested by 31 March, with full
applications to be submitted to the department by 7 May
AHRB AWARDS
Applicants to CEES in History and Cultural Studies can alternatively apply
for scholarships to the Arts and Humanities Research Board, which has now
ring-fenced a number of awards nationally to be devoted to Russian and East
European Studies in the coming year.
CEES is a multi-disciplinary centre of internationally recognised excellence
in research, and was awarded the top research rating for Scottish
Universities of 5* in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise
The department’s research interests cover Russia and Central and Eastern
Europe (including the Baltic States). Supervision is offered in the
following broad thematic areas:
· Central and East European politics and economic transformation
· Civil society and social movements
· European integration, globalisation and transnationalism with respect to
the post-socialist space
· Identity, culture, socio-economic and socio-cultural change, gender and
migration in the USSR, post-Soviet Russia and the FSU
· Nationhood, nationalism and minority rights in Russia and CEE
· Russian, Soviet and East European History (economic and social, political)
