Hi
The Museum of English Rural Life is moving to a new site in Redlands Road,
Reading. Building work is near completion on the £10.5m development, which
has been supported by a £5.17m grant for the Heritage Lottery Fund, by a
public appeal and by funding from the University. The Museum will close on
25 June 2004 and reopen at the new site in the Spring of 2005. For more
information see http://www.ruralhistory.org/the_centre/the_new_museum.html
Access to the Library and the Archives will be reduced during this period.
The Reading Room will be open Tuesday's and Wednesday's at it's curent site
on the Whiteknights Campus until December 2004. Much of our library and
archive material will have to be brought to the reading room from off site.
In order to guarantee that items will be available, we therefore ask that
researchers make an appointment well in advance of their visit and specify
the material required.
Details about opening hours on the new site will follow. I would be
grateful if you could inform any potential researchers wishing to consult
our collections of these arrangements.
Thank you
