Subject: Reader Registration
Dear all,
We are an archive service based within a large public reference library.
Currently, neither the archive nor the library operate a reader card system. In
order to see library stock, a reader must fill in an order slip with their name
and address. In the archives, readers fill in a registration form each time
they visit with details such as name, address, subject of research etc and this
information is used at the end of each week to compile statistics. Readers then
fill in a request slip for items they would like to see.
We are looking at introducing a reader registration system (possibly in the form
of a reader's ticket) for the whole of the building but are interested to find
out how other archive services deal with this. Do services always operate a
separate archive registration process or are there joint library/archive
registration systems out there? How do you compile separate archive stats? Do
you still ask people to sign in to the archive?
Many thanks,
Lyn Morgan
