Dear all
Apologies if this topic has already been raised on the NRA.
I spotted last night, in an Antiques Publication I receive, that the Poole
Pottery Museum and Archive are to be sold at Christie's on 31 March 2004.
Apparently the Company went into receivership in June 2003 and whilst the
Business has been sold to a new owner in November 2003 neither the Museum or
the Archive were included in the sale. The administrators therefore offered
the collections to Christie's and they are expected to raise in excess of
£180,000, presumably mainly from the Museum Collection.
My questions are does anyone know what is contained in the Archive of what
is an important pottery, started in 1873, and presumably covering all the
major styles of the late 19th and entire 20th century. I am guessing that
there would be at the minimum design papers and artwork which would reflect
all these different styles and their development. Are we as a Community
aware of its sale and are any efforts been made to save the Archive either
in its entirety or in part for the nation.
I would be interested to know if anyone has any views or information on the
subject.
Please reply to me off line and I will do a summary for the list.
Regards
Nigel
