Good luck in your quest Fiona: the Society of Archivists keeps a list of
placements which might help. I don't know if you have seen the guidelines
produced by FARMER on what course directors are looking for in applicants?
It's available at <www.liv.ac.uk/lucas> specifically
<<http://www.liv.ac.uk/lucas/FARMER/Guidelines.%20pre-course.doc>.
These point out that it is *not* a requirement of the approved university
courses that you obtain a year's experience, but that it is the quality of
the experience that you get rather than the length of time you spend which
is important. This misconception is occurring because many placements are
for a year, for practical purposes.
But your plan to get more rounded experience will certainly stand you in
good stead!
