Further to Martin Taylor's posting about last weeks Observer article saying
that thanks to the inceasing number of online family history sites people no
longer need to visit 'dusty local archives.' I am pleased to report that the
letter I wrote refuting this view was published in today's Observer.
More worrying than the 'dusty' thing was the statement that pay per view
internet sites mean that local archives have nothing to offer genealogists and
other researchers. We need to publicise the wealth of information we hold as
well as the more obvious value-added benefits we provide such as free access to
original records and professional advice.
Cheers all and happy 2004,
