Organised jointly by the University of Hull Brynmor Jones Library and
Leeds University Library, this conference follows on from the work of
the Yorkshire Quaker Heritage Project. It is the second in a series
of annual conferences on various aspects of Quaker history.
The conference will focus on the history of Quaker involvement in
science, medicine and natural history. The papers will shed light on
the compatibility of science with religious belief, by examining the
place of science within the Quaker community and the particular
contribution made by Quaker scientists and naturalists.
Speakers include:
* Geoffrey Morries on 'Unity with the creation' - but why and how?
Some thoughts on 17th century Quakers and science
* Professor Geoffrey Cantor on Quaker reactions to Darwin's theory of
evolution
* Dr Christopher Hilton on Archives of the enquiring mind - some 19th
century Quaker collections at the Wellcome Library
To book, please complete the form below and return it with a cheque
for 10.00 GBP made payable to 'The University of Hull'.
