ARCHIVIST
Digital Archives Department
University of London Computer Centre
£23,259 - £29,473
We are looking for an experienced archivist to help us preserve a
vital part of the UK's digital heritage.
The University of London Computer Centre operates the National
Digital Archive of Datasets (NDAD) on behalf of the UK National
Archives. NDAD's scope is the electronic data created by UK
government departments and agencies. We preserve, catalogue
and make available data from database systems which the
National Archives has selected for preservation. This work is done
by a small team of archivists, working closely with data and
systems specialists and paraprofessional staff. For further
information, see NDAD's website (http://ndad.ulcc.ac.uk/).
As one of the archivists on our team, you will primarily be involved in
cataloguing and indexing data and documents transferred to
NDAD, using standards such as ISAD(G), NCA Rules and the UK
Archival Thesaurus. Another key aspect of the job will be liasing
with government departments and the National Archives over
transfers of data. You will contribute to outreach activities, such as
delivering talks and presentations. You will also be responsible for
developing NDAD's cataloguing policies and procedures. Although
the focus of your work will be on NDAD, there may be opportunities
to participate in other projects in which ULCC is involved.
You should possess an archive or records management
qualification, and a strong track record of post-qualification
experience. A sound knowledge of current archive standards and
legislation is also essential, as are good team working and
presentation skills. Experience of databases and an awareness of
digital preservation issues would be beneficial.
We expect to appoint on the ALC Grade 2 scale (£23,259 -
£29,473 inclusive of London weighting). However, an exceptionally
well qualified candidate may be appointed on ALC Grade 3
(£30,632 - £35,813 inclusive).

record check form and return them to: Personnel, University of
