Like most of the list I usually scan and delete Peter's postings pretty
quickly. But every so often there's something of personal interest - In
this case Bethlehem Steel.
1) That the orphaned records issue is not something that just affects
the UK
2) the length of time the Bethlehem Steel archive fight for survival has
dragged on for some time
3) Needing more staff at short notice to help with the project
Same old, same old?
"Metz, historian for Hugh Moore Historical Park & Museums Inc., which
runs the National Canal Museum, began collecting Steel stuff more than
20 years ago when Bethlehem Steel executives announced they were getting
rid of the company's research library and archives.
"It was sort of like 'Supermarket Sweep,'" said Metz, recalling the game
show where contestants run amok in a grocery store, grabbing everything
in sight.
Also interesting was that "To help cope with the backlog, collections
manager Thomas Smith has applied for a grant from the National Archives
and Records Administration to hire several additional archivists."
