Colleagues who have been following the Poole Pottery saga may be
interested in the following information released by the MLA/V&A fund:
An offer of support from the MLA/V&A Purchase Grant Fund has assisted
Poole Museum Service in bidding at Bonham's recent auction of the
Poole Pottery Collection. They acquired a number of key pieces including
important archival items such as the indenture between Jesse Carter and
the Borough and County of Poole, 1873 and a group of 26 volumes
recording glaze trial results, 1940-1999.
As well as producing highly recognisable, distinctive and popular
pieces, Poole Pottery was extremely highly regarded throughout the early
and mid-20th century by national critics. The Poole Pottery Collection
is the surviving record of this important British ceramics company and
it has local and national significance.
The Purchase Grant Fund is administered by the Victoria & Albert Museum
on behalf of the MLA and supports the purchase of material relating to
arts, literature and history by museums, galleries, record offices and
specialist libraries throughout England and Wales. For more information
on the Fund, e-mail [log in to unmask] or telephone 020 7942
