Dear all,
Invitation to Tender for User and Non User Research to shape the future of
archives online
The National Council on Archives, is inviting tenders from consultancies to
provide formative evaluation to support the development of Linking Arms. The
project is funded by The National Archives and supported by Resource.
Linking Arms is a large partnership project, led by The National Archives,
which will enable people everywhere to contribute to and to share in the
archival heritage of the UK. Linking Arms will promote access to the
heritage by providing a gateway to archive material produced locally,
regionally or nationally by communities, by organisations, by libraries and
by public and private archives. People will be able to see and navigate
through catalogue data, film clips, video recordings and digitised images.
Linking Arms will invite people to contribute their own stories and to
search, discover and download images of their own history, their own
heritage. Linking Arms will promote links to heritage material outside the
archives domain and will present opportunities for educational development.
Linking Arms will be capable of continual expansion to incorporate a growing
body of material as it becomes available in a variety of formats.
The aims of the research are to :
* Provide formative evaluation that tests the vision and
concept of Linking Arms amongst users and non-users of the existing strands
of the NAN.
* Provide formative evaluation which establishes a suite of
"real life" potential user scenarios for the Linking Arms concept;
* Provide formative evaluation from users and potential users
to support the development phase of the Linking Arms Central Portal in terms
of content, structure and presentation;
The invitation to tender will close on Friday 20th February at 5pm.
The timetable for the research is between the start of March and the end of
May.
