Dear Julie,
I am shocked by your announcement. We have not been in contact in recent years so your news comes to me as a complete surprise. Some of the happiest teaching/learning experiences of my career were those in which we shared classes at camrae, I learned so much from you--as did those wonderful students.
Lucy joins me in sending you our best wishes,
Lawrence

Subject: Leaving the Field
Dear Colleagues,
I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that I will be retiring from Boston
University at the end of this academic year and leaving the field. This has been a
difficult decision to make but I feel I need to move on to other things and this is an
appropriate time in my life to do so.
The Department of Archaeology will be doing a search for an Assistant Professor in
the near future and I encourage those of you who have students about to complete
their Ph.D. or D.Phil., or those of you who have recently done so, to watch for an
advertisement. We will post one on this list, among others.
Sincerely,
Julie
