Seminar on Anthropology and Sport: Beyond the Boundaries
4 December 2004
International Centre for Sports History and Culture
De Montfort University
Leicester
How do anthropologists engage with the topic of sport?
The aim of this one-day seminar is to explore approaches to sport
within anthropology.
What is the 'anthropology of sport'?
Is the analysis of sport subsumed within other categories of activities?
Where are the boundaries of sport in our theory and practice?
We welcome papers which aim to define, describe, and engage with sport
in an anthropological context, particularly through ethnography, as well
as visual and material culture.
We also welcome all who are interested in engaging with this topic and
want to be part of the discussion.
Please send a 150 word abstract to Margaret Groeneveld
([log in to unmask]) by 10 November 2004.
