THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER
HOPE HOSPITAL CLINICAL ACADEMIC GROUP
Research Associate (Ref: 668/04)
An applied statistician is required to carry out research into the
statistical analysis of clinical trials in the field of subfertility
treatment. The objectives of this three-year project are to review
the methodological quality of published trials, to assess the
implications of incorrect approaches for bias and precision of
estimated treatment effects, and to produce guidelines for
systematic reviewers in this field.
The ability to express statistical ideas in non-technical language will
be essential. A postgraduate qualification with a substantial
statistical component, and experience of applied medical statistics
would be advantageous. Candidates without a doctoral degree
would be strongly encouraged to register for a PhD on appointment.
The appointment will be to the Biostatistics Group in the School of
Epidemiology and Health Sciences at the University of Manchester.
The appointee will be mainly based at Hope Hospital, a University
of Manchester teaching hospital. The project supervisors are Mr
Andy Vail (Hope Hospital) and Dr Roseanne McNamee
(Biostatistics Group).
Salary will be in the range £18,893 - £21,010 per year depending
on qualifications and experience. The appointment is for three
years in the first instance.
