SHORT COURSE: Statistical Analysis of Genetic Association Studies Monday & Tuesday, 6 & 7 September, 2004
The course will be at a more advanced level than the introductory course (Introduction to Genetic Epidemiology), and will build on the ideas introduced in the last two modules of that course. The two courses may be taken together, or this course may be taken alone by researchers who already have a firm grasp of basic statistics and some familiarity with human genetics.
Summary of course content:
* Population genetics of linkage disequilibrium
* Statistical measures of association
* Population-based candidate-gene studies
* Population-based fine-scale mapping
* Genome-wide scans
* Accounting for population substructure
* Family-based association studies
There will be extensive practical sessions in addition to lectures. Some of these will use the R statistical package, freely available with documentation from www.r-project.org
Course Instructors:
Professor David Balding and Dr John Whittaker, Imperial College London. Dr Andrew Morris, Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, Oxford.
Course Fee (inc. lunch): £400 (industry) £300 (academic, inc non-profit organisations) £200 (Imperial Staff and students)
