RSS HIGHLANDS LOCAL GROUP MEETING
DATE: Thursday, 6/05/2004
TIME: 5 pm
PLACE: Scottish Agricultural College, Stratherrick Rd., Inverness (more
details see below)
TEA: 4.30 pm
TITLE: Bayesian Methods for Population Ecology
SPEAKER: Steve Brooks (University of Cambridge)
ABSTRACT:
The Bayesian revolution has been slow to take off in the ecological
literature, but there are many advantages to adopting these powerful
new methods. In this talk we will highlight some of the important
ecological issues that have been addressed using Bayesian
computational techniques and highlight the advantages and challenges
in using them. The talk will be illustrated by a number of case
studies incorporating recent and current research.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those who have not visited SAC before, it is
situated off Stratherrick Road, about 1.5 miles from the centre of
town. The main building comprises a red sandstone building set in
grounds at the end of drive; there is a cottage at the entrance.
Approaching from the town the site is on your right, and if you pass
the Lochardil hotel (on your left) you have travelled too far. If
you are travelling from the direction of the new Southern Distributor
Rd, the site is about 175 yards on the left following the Lochardil
Hotel. The meeting will be held in the 'library' of the main
building.
Everybody welcome (including non-RSS-members and non-statisticians)
Regards,
Claus (local group secretary)
