The Medical Statistics/Epidemiology appointment, in the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit entails work on two studies on gastrointestinal infections, one in England, and one in Ireland, under the supervision of Professor Laura C Rodrigues. Responsibilities in both studies will include analysis of data from the studies and of links with routine data, and the preparation of research findings for publication. We are looking for applicants with a Masters degree in statistics / epidemiology / demography, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary scientific team. Experience in the use of personal computers for manipulation of large databases and data analysis is essential. We would like to appoint the best candidate, so job sharing or even two part-time appointments, one for each study would also be acceptable. The Health Economics appointment entails work on a study of the economic implications of gastrointestinal infections in Ireland. The appointment will be made either in London or Dublin, on the applicant's preference. The study will involve reviewing relevant literature on the economics of infectious diseases, costing studies on hospital care, primary care, community care and impacts on families. An interest in infectious diseases, epidemiology and some practical experience in health economic studies would be an advantage. The appointed person will work with Professor Charles Normand in Dublin and Professor Jenny Roberts in London. We are looking for applicants with a Masters degree in economics / health economics or a related discipline, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary scientific team. If appropriate both post holders will be encouraged to undertake a PhD based on this study. Both positions require time to be spent in London and in Ireland. The two studies are The Economic Impact of Gastroenteritis in Ireland, funded by Safefood Ireland and A Case Control Study of Campylobacter in the UK: Risk factors and Severity (with genotyping for a sample of cases) in collaboration with the HPA. The Health Economist appointment will be for 24 months, and will be made on the London School's Research Fellow or Lecturer scales, according to qualifications and experience (£21,704 - £27,762 per annum inclusive), or Trinity College research and Lecturer scales (€28,366 - €55,000). The Statistician / Epidemiologist appointment will be for 24 months, and will be made on the School's Research Fellow or Lecturer scales, according to qualifications and experience (£23,821 - £25,765 per annum inclusive).
