ANNOUNCE: ORDINARY MEETING ORGANIZED BY THE RESEARCH SECTION of the RSS.
Wednesday 5th May 2004, 5.00pm at the RSS (Tea 4.30pm)
Clustering objects on subsets of attributes.
JEROME H FRIEDMAN and JACQUELINE J MEULMAN
(Stanford University) (Leiden University)
Synopsis:
Cluster analysis is an important tool for analyzing data from systems
biology
(genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics). These data typically represent a
large number attributes (~ 10,000), measured on a small number of objects
(~ 100). Unlike traditional clustering methods, the approach to be presented
(COSA) is able to detect groups of objects that simultaneously have similar
values on (very) small subsets of the attributes. The attribute subset
for any
discovered group may be completely, partially or nonoverlapping with
those for
other groups. The COSA software is publicly available.
An Electronic version of this paper will become available before the meeting
in due course.
The meeting will take place at the Royal Statistical Society, 12 Errol
Street,
London EC1Y 8LX (nearest underground stations are Old Street, Moorgate and
Barbican). Tel: +44 (0)20 7638 8998
