The Center for Statistics of the Limburgs Universitair Centrum looks for a candidate (m/f) for:
Assistant/Associate Professor in Biostatistics/Bioinformatics
(WNI/2004/003)
The vacancy concerns a full time tenure - track faculty position with tasks within the Center for Statistics of the LUC. The academic rank is at the level of docent/ hoofddocent, depending on the qualifications and age of the candidate.
Tasks
The candidate will strengthen and extend the current research potential of the Center of Statistics in the field of bioinformatics. He/she will support the coordination of scientific research and consulting services. In this respect, multi disciplinary collaboration will be of great importance. The candidate will direct a part of his/her research interests towards scientific consulting services (including service teaching for research institutions and industry) and assure a fruitful interaction between the consulting, research and educational tasks. Regarding the latter, the candidate will assume teaching tasks primarily in the field of bioinformatics, both at bachelor and master level.
Profile
· The candidate has got a proven (methodological and applied) research output in bioinformatics and/or computational biology, with a solid knowledge of (bio)statistics. Alternatively, the candidate has got an excellent output in biostatistics, a strong interest in genetics and a commitment to direct his/her research towards bioinformatics. In either case, additional working knowledge of molecular biology is a plus. Experience in international research and collaboration, with a knowledge of several application areas (like oncology, infectious diseases, immune-system diseases), is preferable. The candidate also has got a strong record in scientific collaboration and consultancy.
· The candidate has got experience with respect to various aspects of academic education: coordination and organization of courses, development of teaching material and supervision of practical projects and theses. If the candidate's native language is not Dutch, it is expected that he/she will acquire the necessary skills to teach in Dutch in a short-term perspective.
Diploma
The candidate holds a doctoral or PhD degree in a computational science (e.g. Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology).
