Linking Data: understanding the past and looking into the future
Friday 7 May 2004
MANDEC, University of Manchester
Social science needs to understand long-term social-economic change and
look into the future to identify the social implications and policy
requirements of changes over the next 10 to 20 years. This work needs to
draw on a large range of data sources which may include some or all of:
longitudinal microdata to understand processes, continuous cross-sectional
national-level survey data to provide aggregate change for sub-groups and
additionally, information from administrative sources, for example on vital
statistics, migration and health.
This meeting is concerned with identifying examples of current or planned
research which seeks to address long-run change. For each research
application we will ask a number of questions for discussion and debate.
