General Requirements    Post graduate qualifications or advanced university
degree in statistics, economics or a related field.

Twelve years of progressively responsible experience in national or
international statistical organizations.

Demonstrated professional competence and mastery of the major subject matters
of the Service.

Management and technical leadership of a high order in the area of food and
agriculture statistics, including statistical databases.

Fluency in English, French or Spanish and a limited knowledge of any of the
other two or Arabic or Chinese, the official languages of the Organization.

Ability to lead and work effectively with a diverse team of people of
different national and cultural backgrounds in an international setting.

Summary of Duties and Functions


        Under the general guidance of the Director of the Statistics Division
(ESS), the Chief, ESSB is responsible for the delivery of the programme of
work of the Service, ensuring effective work planning, programming and
budgeting of staff and non-staff resources.  The Service Chief recommends
selections of staff for vacant positions and consultancies, and guides,
supervises and evaluates the work of the staff of the Service.  Specifically,
the incumbent will:

Provide overall supervision and guidance relating to the compilation and
processing of food and agriculture statistics as well as the construction of
supply utilisation accounts and food balance sheets and index numbers.

Provide overall supervision and guidance relating to the updating of the
trade flows by origin and destination and international agricultural
merchandise trade matrices, including their dissemination.

Provide overall supervision and guidance relating to the development of
statistical concepts, definitions, standards and classification of food and
agriculture commodities.

Supervise the development, organisation and implementation of data/metadata
quality standards for food and agriculture commodities.

Provide technical assistance to member countries relating to the development
of their food and agricultural databases and participate in training
activities for the improvement of national data series.

Participate in meetings and seminars of inter-governmental bodies,
international non-governmental organizations, particularly those concerned
with agricultural statistics.

Provide leadership, coordination and supervision of the staff of the Service.

        Without dependents: From US$ 111 385 to 124 973
With dependents: From US$ 120 503 to 136 199
