Statisticians - Health Solutions Wales, Cardiff.
There has never been a time when the need for relevant and timely information has been so vital to the development of the National Health Service in Wales. To help meet this need, Health Solutions Wales (HSW) is looking to recruit two members of staff into its Statistical Services team. We are looking for staff with statistical expertise to at least degree level coupled with well honed computing skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential as is the ability to present results to non-statisticians.
Statistician (£16625 to £26829 including allowances)
For the first 12 months of this post, the postholder will work closely with colleagues from the University of Wales College of Medicine (UWCM) and the Congenital Anomalies Register and Information System (CARIS) to develop a disease surveillance tool. The tool will be used initially to monitor changes in the rate of congenital malformations nationally and regionally, and to identify spatial patterns associated with such outcomes.
The postholder will require specific knowledge of spatial analyses and quality control techniques and a good knowledge of SPSS and S-PLUS would be a distinct advantage.
Trainee Statistician (£13704 to £21676 including allowances)
The postholder will provide statistical support to many of the National Health Databases hosted by HSW. The main area of responsibility however, will be the analysis of primary care data from the General Practice Morbidity Database and the production of the annual report.
Initial placement on the salary scales will depend on qualifications and experience.
