RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, statistical genomics
Salary £22,116 to £32,232 inclusive of London Allowance
The post is funded by a BBSRC/DTI Link grant in collaboration with the
Kennel Club and Masterfoods. The project is to develop computational
and statistical models of the population histories of several dog
breeds, informed by Kennel Club records, and to use these to develop
cost-effective study designs for investigating the genetic
architecture of various diseases in different dog breeds. The
longer-term aims of the project include both advancing canine welfare
and using genetic discoveries in dogs to inform human genetic studies
to improve human health.
The post holder will have a PhD in statistical or computational
genetics or related field (statistics, population genetics, genetic
epidemiology, bioinformatics, mathematics). The level of appointment
will be commensurate with skills and relevant research experience in
the fields of: computational statistical algorithms and software,
population genetics, and scientific computer programming.
The appointment is for 3 years, starting 1 January 2005 (later by agreement).
