	BRUNEL UNIVERSITY



	Health Economics Research Group (HERG)



	HERG’s activities include a long-standing and internationally recognised programme of applied, policy-relevant research and methodological development related to the economic evaluation of health technologies.  To further strengthen and develop this programme HERG is seeking applicants for 3 research posts. In each case applicants will ideally have been trained and have appropriate experience in health economics, but applications from well-qualified and experienced researchers trained in allied health services research disciplines, or economists with experience in other applied areas, who can demonstrate their potential contribution to health economics, will be carefully considered.





	Senior Research Fellow (RAIII): Department of Health (DH) Programme

	We seek to appoint a Senior Research Fellow to take a lead role in our ongoing DH-funded research programme on economic evaluation and health technology assessment.  The post-holder will assume specific day-to-day responsibility for that programme, as well as contributing to the work of HERG as a whole.   Applicants should have a higher degree, preferably a PhD, and significant research experience.  



	For an appropriately qualified and experienced candidate, the appointment will be for 5 years with a starting salary up to £36,889 including London allowance. 





	Research Fellow (RAII):  MATCH Project 



	Vacancy Ref: C8000/1



	As part of the ESPRC-funded Match Project, we seek a health economist with a postgraduate qualification, preferably a PhD, and applied research experience to work collaboratively developing, refining and applying methods for the economic evaluation of medical devices. For this exciting and path-breaking work, knowledge of and experience in health economic evaluation techniques, in modelling studies and in the use of Bayesian methods to handle uncertainty would be highly desirable.    



	The post will be based in HERG but the holder will collaborate with MATCH colleagues at the Universities Birmingham, Nottingham and Ulster.  Some travel between these academic partners will be involved, as will some involvement with the various industrial and public sector partners. 



	The appointment will be for an initial term of 3 years, extendable to 5 years with a starting salary, depending on experience, up to £33,763 including London allowance.

	Research Fellow (RA1A): Papworth Hospital NHS Trust 



	Vacancy Ref: C8001/1



	HERG has a successful record of research with the R&D Unit at Papworth Hospital Cambridgeshire. It specialises in trials of new technologies in cardiovascular and respiratory medicine and surgery, funded by the NHS, major charities and industry.



	This collaborative programme now requires a dedicated health economist.  Candidates should have relevant experience in applied research and/or a relevant postgraduate qualification and good quantitative skills.  Experience of working with clinicians in an NHS setting will be an advantage.  The successful candidate will be required to work on several established research projects and to assist in the development of new projects.  (Statistical support for this collaboration is provided by a similar arrangement with the MRC Biostatistics Unit, Cambridge.)  Candidates must be prepared to travel between and work at the two sites as required.



	The initial appointment will be for 3 years with a starting salary, depending on experience, up to £24,934 including London allowance.
