Genetic Epidemiology/Statistical Geneticist Research Fellowship
Worldwide Epidemiology department at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is seeking a
statistician/analyst for analysis and statistical support of large-scale
genetic epidemiological studies in the field of Cardiovascular Disease
Epidemiology.
Key responsibilities include consultation with Epidemiologists on the
design and analysis of genetic Epidemiology projects, preparation of
statistical analysis plans, responsibility for analysis and reporting of
results according to internal standards, and communication of statistical
results and interpretations to Epidemiologists and Project teams via e.g.
reports, presentations.
Successful candidates will have an MSc in Statistics with at least one
module in genetic analysis or a higher degree in statistical
genetics/genetic epidemiology or related field with experience in the
analysis of complex diseases. Candidates should have demonstrated the
ability to manage interdisciplinary projects and experience working in
multi disciplinary teams. Also required are effective consulting, good
communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with
colleagues throughout R&D in the US and Europe. Demonstrated ability to
influence client work practices; broad knowledge of statistical
methodology and software packages; thorough understanding of genetic
statistical analysis for population based data; effective oral and written
skills; working knowledge of scientific principles in two or more of the
following areas: statistical methods in epidemiology , multivariate
analysis, case/control association studies, genetics, molecular biology,
meta-analysis; experience with high-dimensional problems as well as formal
training/experience in genetics or related biological/molecular sciences
is a plus. The applicant should have working experience of genetic
analysis software and at least on standard statistical package (e.g. SAS,
SPlus, STATA). Candidates should be able to handle and manage large data
sets and work independently.
The position is for 1 year at the first instance, and will be based in
Harlow, Essex, UK.
