Be a Statistician who makes a difference!

A statistician working in the Statistics Unit of the Health Protection

Agency really can make a difference. Our work is extremely varied and

includes clinical trials, designed laboratory experiments, investigation of

disease outbreaks, surveys, method comparisons, time series, and survival

analyses. The Unit is based within the Communicable Disease Surveillance

Centre, Colindale, North West London and we work closely with

epidemiologists, microbiologists, scientists, administrative staff and

mathematical modellers.

The post holder, although based in the Statistics Unit, will have

particular responsibilities to the Local and Regional Services (LaRS),

providing statistical input to CDSC's regional research and surveillance

activities. He/she will also have particular responsibilities to the

HIV/STI Department of CDSC, providing statistical input at the design,

organisation, management, analysis and publication stages for all the

Department's varied research and surveillance activities, ensuring the

department benefits from recent advances in statistical methods in HIV and

STI epidemiology. He/she will also be expected to contribute to the general

work of the Statistics Unit.

The ideal candidate will have a good Mathematics or Statistics first degree

and an appropriate postgraduate qualification. He/she will have a

publication record and 2 - 3 years relevant experience as a statistician in

a medical field.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is an independent body that protects the

occur. We also prepare for new and emerging threats, such as a bio-terrorist

attack or a virulent new strain of disease.

The post will be on the Scientific Scale B11-13 (£26,599-£28,633 inclusive

of London weighting).
