Dear Listers: I received a comment to change some data in one analysis, but
I can't figure out how the author of the comment got a 2.5 factor: this is
the comment.
Diarrheal incidence is assumed 20% for Central Am and 13.1% for Peru. They
seem way too low, and seem more like 2-week prevalence rates. If they are
prevalence rates, annual incidence will be something like 4.1 cases per
child per year in C-Am (20%*52/2.5) and 2.7 in Peru (13%*52/2.5), assuming
an average duration of 3-4 days (thus the 2.5 factor)
I do not really understand where the 2.5 came from. Does anybody know about
a formula to relate two-week prevalence rates with annual incidence rates or
do anaybody understands what is the origin of the 2.5 ?
If anyone can hlep me I would really really appreciate. By the way I'm a
economist, so I'm not familiar with epidemiology formulas. THX
Rodrigo
