UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON
Institute of Child Health
and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust
Centre for Paediatric Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow in Life-course Epidemiology
An experienced Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow is needed to join
a multidisciplinary team investigating life course influences on disease
risk and social inequalities in health in mid-life. The work is based on
the rich longitudinal data available in the 1958 cohort. The study includes
about 10,000 participants who have been studied from their birth and who
have recently had a medical assessment as part of ongoing follow-up of this
population. This MRC-funded project is a collaboration between the
Institute of Child Health, St George’s Hospital Medical School, Institute
of Education and National Centre for Social Research.
The post-holder will play a central role in developing and advising on the
analysis of the biomedical dataset, in liaison with a team of specialist
advisers in the fields of mental health, cardiovascular and respiratory
disease, growth, vision and hearing. The appointee will undertake analysis
and prepare reports and papers for publication. They will be encouraged to
develop your own research interests, including methodological studies, to
maximise the scientific output from this rich longitudinal dataset. The
post offers an excellent opportunity for career development in
epidemiology/public health or biostatistics and scope for an experienced
analyst to make an important contribution to research.
The successful applicant will have a higher qualification, at least to
Masters level (or equivalent) and preferably a PhD, in one of the
following: public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, biology, nutrition
or another subject relevant to this research. It is also expected that
applicants will have experience of working within epidemiology or a related
subject.
This full-time position is for a minimum of 2 years with funding available
until the end of May 2007. The appointment will be at a suitable point on
