Dr. Tony Babinec, president of AB Analytics, will be teaching an online
short course in data mining Sept. 17 - Oct. 15 at statistics.com. The
course will cover supervised learning techniques, including k-nearest
neighbors, classification and regression trees (CART), neural nets,
logistic regression and multiple linear regression.
The course will also cover the use of partitioning to divide the data into
training data (data used to build a model), validation data (data used to
assess the performance of different models, or, in some cases, to fine tune
the model) and test data (data used to predict the performance of the final
model).
Dr. Babinec is on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Chapter of the
American Statistical Association, and the Editorial Board of the Journal of
Targeting, Measurement and Analysis for Marketing. Before forming AB
Analytics, Dr. Babinec worked at SPSS Inc. in a variety of technical and
managerial roles.
Participants interact with the instructor via a private discussion board
over approximately 4 weeks; the course will require about 10 hours per week
and there are no set hours when you must be online.
