ALSPAC (Children of the Nineties) is looking to appoint a full time
statistician from January 2005. ALSPAC is a unique and exciting research
project involving 14,000 families, aimed at identifying ways in which
different aspects of the environment interact with genetic factors to
influence health, development and well being (www.alspac.bris.ac.uk).
This full time post is for eighteen months, working on a project funded by
the Wellcome Trust investigating the best way to identify developmental
problems in young children. Your tasks will involve cleaning and
manipulating data and carrying out statistical analyses on large datasets.
You will work alongside ALSPAC's team of statisticians, whose roles include
providing statistical and ALSPAC support for external collaborators and
cleaning, editing and analyzing data whilst maintaining accurate
documentation (often web-based). ALSPAC is a stimulating multi-disciplinary
environment in which to work, with an active seminar programme, and is part
of the Institute of Child Life & Health in Bristol.
Working knowledge of SPSS and databases such as MS Access is essential and
experience of Stata would also be desirable. Applicants should have a
postgraduate qualification (at least MSc level) in statistics or a related
discipline, with significant experience in using
epidemiological/statistical methods to analyse large datasets.
Grade : Grade 1A
Salary : £19,460 - £29,128
