BIOMATHEMATICS & STATISTICS SCOTLAND
APPLIED STATISTICIAN
BioSS seeks an applied statistician for Workpackage One of the EC SAFEFOODS initiative.
This involves 9 partners with the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI) as project co-ordinator.
The project will involve a wide variety of statistical work including:
a) design & analysis of experiments to compare different methods of food production;
b) multivariate analysis of metablolomic, proteomic & transcriptiomic profiles to characterise
and distinguish among production methods;
c) organisation of simple databases to allow experimental results to be used
automatically in risk models
Applicants should have well-developed technical skills as well as good communication skills to enable
them to collaborate with scientists on site and in other European countries.
An ability to convince collaborators of the merits of adhering to efficient design and standardised
reporting procedures will be required to ensure quantitative aspects of the project run smoothly.
Candidates should have a good degree and at least 2 years postgraduate experience (PhD or MSc preferred)
with a strong component of statistics.
The appointment will start in October 2004 for a period of 3.5 years and will be based in the BioSS office
at the Scottish Crop Research Institute, Dundee. Salary will be in the range £21,700 - £25,200 (Band 6).
