PhD studentship in Epidemiology/ Medical Statistics

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the area of Respiratory
Epidemiology under the supervision of Dr Andrea Venn to start in Autumn
2004. The proposed project will look at the relationship between exposure
to traffic pollution and the risk of asthma, allergy and chronic airflow
obstruction, and will involve statistical analyses of datasets including
the Health Survey for England and the use of geographical information
systems (GIS).
Applicants should have a good first degree, and preferably an MSc in
Epidemiology or Medical Statistics. Experience of statistical analysis
using a software package such as STATA or SPSS is essential. Prior
experience of GIS is not required.
The student will be based at City Hospital, Nottingham and will be part of
a team of researchers (clinicians, statisticians and epidemiologists)
within the Division of Epidemiology and Public Health and the Division of
Respiratory Medicine. The studentship offers an annual stipend for up to
three years and covers tuition fees (home/EU).
