The successful applicant will have a postgraduate qualification in medical statistics. Good presentation, computing,
consultancy and interpersonal skills are essential and practical experience of design and analysis of clinical
trials will be an advantage.
This is a new post within the UKCCSG Data Centre and forms part of a planned expansion of the statistical team. The Medical Statistician will play an important role in the work of the UKCCSG Data Centre, and will be principally involved in the design, monitoring and analysis of clinical trials in children's cancer, related studies and other research projects across a wide range of work relating to the treatment of children with cancer. The post holder will work closely with other statistical staff of the UKCCSG, with trial co-ordinators and computing staff in the Data Centre, and with individual clinical investigators. There may be an opportunity for limited teaching/consultancy work within the Faculty of Medicine.
There is currently one full-time Medical Statistician in addition to this post. A third and senior post has been vacant since December 2003 following the early retirement of the post holder. This post is being advertised concurrently. The statistical team is enhanced by two part-time appointments - Professor David Machin as Visiting Professor of Clinical Trial Methodology and Dr Cindy Billingham, of the Birmingham CR UK Trials Unit, as Honorary Visiting Fellow.
