Research Associate in Epidemiology of Ageing
A full-time/part-time Research Associate is required for the Epidemiology
for Policy Group led by Dr David Melzer

<http://www.phpc.cam.ac.uk/epg/index.html> ). The group undertakes
epidemiological research of relevance to public policy and clinical decision
making, and much of the group's research programme has involved
collaboration in multidisciplinary national population studies of ageing and
of mental health. One of the group's current special interests is the causes
and consequences of age-related disease and disability, including genetic
markers linked to ageing. This post will involve looking at the health
status of older people (age fifty plus), comparing England and the USA. The
work will include analysis of information from the English Longitudinal
Study of Ageing (ELSA) and its sister study, the US Health and Retirement
Study (HRS). The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the
publication of results.
Candidates should possess a relevant degree, have a good understanding of
quantitative research methods, the ability to manage large datasets and
experience of statistical analysis using packages such as SPSS or STATA.
Salary scale £18,893-£28,279 per annum pro rata. The appointment is to 31
December 2005 in the first instance.
It may be possible to appoint at the Research Assistant level if a suitable
candidate does not have the appropriate qualifications or experience, salary
scale £18893-£21010 per annum pro rata.
