Applications are invited for these 3-year PhD studentship starting
October 2004. Applicants should have a first degree in statistics,
mathematics, computer science, biological sciences, or related
quantitative discipline, at least at the UK upper 2nd level, or

expenses and conference fees. Non-UK residents are eligible for fees
only.
A number of projects are possible, mainly focused on the development
of statistical methodology for the design and analysis of genetic
association and gene expression studies, and their integration with
epidemiological studies. Example project titles:
i) Meta-analysis in genetic epidemiology
ii) Decision theory in genetic epidemiology
iii) Modelling proteomic profiles
iv) Bayesian supervised learning for gene expression studies
The successful applicants will be based within the Biostatistics
group at the St Mary's, Paddington, campus of Imperial College. The
group currently includes 5 academic staff, 7 post-doctoral research
staff and 6 PhD students. More generally, Imperial
College offers internationally-leading facilities and research
