Vacancy: Medical Statistician
The Centre for Statistics in Medicine in Oxford (Director: Professor Doug
Altman) carries out collaborative medical research projects, a
methodological research programme, and teaching. Members of the Centre have
a particular interest in randomised clinical trials, systematic reviews,
and diagnostic studies. The Centre currently employs 15 statisticians and
other researchers and is affiliated to the Nuffield Department of Clinical

Applications are invited for a medical statistician to join the NHS support
team, currently comprising 3 full time statisticians. The successful
applicant would be expected to provide statistical collaboration and
consultancy with clinical researchers across several medical areas. In
addition, the post holder may participate in applied statistics research
and contribute to the Centre's teaching programme.
Applicants should ideally have a postgraduate qualification in medical
statistics (or a closely related subject), and preferably 3 or 4 years
experience working as a medical statistician. Experience in the use of
statistical packages is essential.
The appointment will be for two years in the first instance. Salary will be
in the range £20-35K per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
