The Clinical Trials Research Unit in The University of Auckland conducts
clinical trials and other epidemiological studies on the causes, prevention
and treatment of vascular diseases and other major heath issues. Broad
themes of research include Cardiovascular and Population Health, Stroke,
Neuroscience and Aged Care, Nutrition and Health Technology.
A position has become available for a Senior Biostatistician to undertake an
interesting mix of statistical analyses and reporting in a variety of health
studies conducted both nationally and internationally. The role also
involves providing support and supervision of a team of three
biostatisticians.
The applicant should have appropriate statistical, computing and scientific
skills with proven experience of modern statistical techniques, such as
survival analysis, mixed models and logistic regression using at least one
of SAS, R, or Splus statistical software. The applicant should hold a higher
degree in statistics, medical statistics or biostatistics with at least
three to five years experience in a similar role. Previous experience in
clinical trials and epidemiology is essential for this role. Experience in
the area of phase I/II trials would be preferred but is not essential.
The applicant will be expected to participate in study design and data
analyses of studies conducted within the Unit. The applicant should have a
publication record in collaboration with medical researchers and experience
in development of papers from a statistical viewpoint. Applicants need to be
motivated, self-disciplined with systematic work habits. The applicant must
be able to demonstrate excellence in written and verbal communication skills
as the position will involve conveying statistical information to
non-statisticians.
