Descriptions of Species Abundance Distributions.
The project will use data from the Rothamsted Insect Survey to examine
models of community dynamics. "Neutral" models of temporal variation in
communities can be fitted to the data, and examined to see if and where
the neutral models fail. This information will be used to develop more
realistic models of community structure, with both temporal and spatial
components.
The project will give the student the chance to work on the statistical
modelling of large ecological datasets, as well as the chance to develop
mathematical models of ecological communities. The work will include
collaboration with Ian Woiwod of Rothamsted Research, UK.
