Cancer registries are facing many challenges to meet the information demands
of the national cancer agenda. NYCRIS requires two motivated senior
information professionals to help deliver a first class service locally and
nationally. The Information Service is responsible for information outputs
using a variety of media, interpretation and analysis of data, preparing
reports, responding to information requests and contributing to
epidemiological and research projects.
Senior Information Analyst – this post offers an excellent opportunity to
lead the production of cancer information. Working closely with the Senior
Medical Statistician/ Analyst, the post holder will be responsible for the
information and analysis service, including management of the information
team. Applications will be considered from graduates in a relevant
discipline (information, statistics, etc, or health/biological sciences with
a significant analytical component). At least two years’ experience of
analysing and presenting health information and producing analytical reports
are required, together with at least one year’s experience of managing/
supervising staff. Most importantly, you should be an enthusiastic team
leader.
Senior Medical Statistician/ Analyst - this post is suitable for anyone who
has a background in medical statistics or who has previously worked in
public health analysis and/or epidemiology. The post holder will work
closely with the Senior Information Analyst, providing expert statistical
input and advice for all NYCRIS cancer information outputs, and playing a
key role in an ongoing programme of epidemiological research. The work will
involve all aspects of project design and analysis, both in-house and
collaborative, which utilise NYCRIS data. In addition this post provides the
opportunity to work with the Biostatistics Unit at the University of Leeds,
with which an honorary contract would be arranged. Applicants should have a
postgraduate qualification in Medical Statistics or equivalent with a
minimum of two years’ relevant experience.
Effective communication and presentation skills (oral and written) are
essential for both posts, plus appropriate IT skills, and a good
understanding of medical terminology. As information professionals you
should have a desire to turn data into real information.
