RSS HIGHLANDS LOCAL GROUP MEETING + AGM
DATE: Thursday, 10/6/2004
TIME: 5 pm
PLACE: Meston Building, University of Aberdeen (Room: TBA)
TEA: 4.45 pm, Room 347
TITLE: System Watch: A Web-based Tool to Monitor and Predict Healthcare
Activity
SPEAKER: Helen Brown, Information and Statistics Division, NHSScotland
Abstract:
System Watch has been developed at ISD to monitor and predict activity
across the Scottish Health Service. It provides a planning aid at a
local and national level for managers and other healthcare workers and
is of particular value during the busy winter period when pressures are
most likely. Real-time data is received on hospital activity, rates of
infectious
illness and ambulance emergency call-outs and predictions on the website
updates immediately in response to new data. The system also has the
capacity to identify vulnerable groups of patients as they arise, for
example clinicians are automatically informed by email of any patients
admitted repeatedly to hospital as an emergency. This talk will cover
the logistics of setting up such a system, the predictive modelling
work, and plans for future development.
