Salary range: £34,000-40,000 depending on experience.
The position is based in the Biostatistics Unit (BSU) of the Medical
Research Council of Cambridge, UK, one of the leading European research
centres in applied and methodological biostatistics. As part of the
BSU’s commitment to the “Bloodomics” Project, we are looking for a
senior statistician with significant experience in statistical genetics
and bioinformatics.
The post holder will identify, develop, modify and apply statistical
methods for the discovery of risk genes for atherothrombosis. The

cell function assays, and the design and analysis of genetic
case-control association or linkage studies. The post holder will
provide senior scientific guidance to junior statisticians /
programmers, and provide day-to-day management of the Unit’s scientific
collaboration with the biomedical research partners. The post holder,
who will benefit from expert advice from BSU senior staff members, will

discovery of novel proteins which play an important role in
atherothrombosis.
The appointment would suit a senior statistician with at least 5 years
post doctoral experience, a wide experience in statistical genetics and
microarray analysis, and a strong background in mathematics and computer
programming. A successful publication record in the development of
statistical methods for the analysis of genetics-genomics data is
advantageous. Required skills: experience in developing efficient
computing tools, especially in the kind of application field of interest
in the Project; capability of promoting efficient teamwork within a
